Committee Reports:
Membership: Margaret reviewed arrangements made with Virginia to
keep track of those who renew and new members.
After the annual meeting,
Virginia
generates an email that goes out reminding
those who have not renewed their membership inviting them to do so. During the summer months a letter is sent
by mail to those who have not yet renewed or who has had their email returned as
undeliverable. In the fall,
the membership committee will call those who have not renewed inquiring why.
Virginia
will email a copy of current membership monthly
in June and July and then as requested.
Virginia
will email the membership chair/s of any new
renewals or new members as they occur, starting in August.
Discussion occurred and a policy will be piloted.
The goal is to reach out to new members.
Nurses returning or renewing their membership will receive a letter that
will include a membership card valid for the year (May 1st to April
30th the following year).
Each new member will receive a letter of welcome with a membership card
enclosed. They will also receive a telephone call
from a member of the membership committee or the Executive Board to welcome
them, and attempt to support them in their public health nursing role (mentoring
them if necessary). Also during this
phone call, we will ask them to join one of our subcommittees.
As Margaret has been elected secretary for CAPHN, the Membership Committee chair
is presently Heather Henning. A new
co-chair can be appointed by the President.
Lynn
will make inquiries as to who might be willing
to fill this vacancy.
Lynn
thanked Margaret for hard work on the
Membership Committee over the years.
Education Committee: Debbye
Rosen has stepped down as co-chair of the education committee. Monica Farina remains as the chairperson. As one of the functions of the Vice
President of CAPHN, Andrea coordinates program for all meetings. The Education Committee and Andrea work
closely together. Andrea made the
suggestion that each of the committee members be assigned to take the lead on
one educational meeting a year.
Debbye Rosen has been handling the meetings about Influenza both the Update in
the fall and the Roundtable in the spring.
Hopefully she will continue to do this.
Monica Farina has coordinated the annual meeting.
Again, hopefully, she will agree to be the lead on this meeting again this year. That leaves 2 more quarterly meetings. Discussion ensued on what other topics
would be of interest and would fit into these meeting. The three most prominent ideas were the
new lead requirements from
DPH
, food safety issues and how to be an advocate. Linda Bailey said she would check into an
environmental health and nursing program done by someone at the
University
of
Hartford
.
