CAPHN
Executive Board Meeting
Minutes
of 2/7/06
Present: Phil Greiner,
Andrea Lombard, Debbie Horvath, Barbara Quigley, Barb Dingfelder, Lynn
Abrahamson, Margaret Balint
The meeting was called to order at 3:30 PM by President
Phil Greiner.
Minutes from the previous meeting were reviewed by
members present. Motion was made by Lynn and seconded by Margaret to accept the
minutes with a correction to note the amount in the treasury to be $3,353.70.
Education Committee
It was agreed that the meeting would
address issues related to the upcoming influenza conference, scheduled for March
10th and co-sponsored by CAPHN, DPH and CADH. The Pitkin Community
Center in Wethersfield has been reserved, with a snow date of 3/24 in case of
inclement weather. There is usually a $40 charge to use the center, but the
local health director, Paul Hutchinson, has offered to cover this. Approximately
75 people can be accommodated. The meeting will be from 8:30 to 11:00 AM, and a
board meeting will take place afterwards. Phil noted that he will not be
present, and he has asked Andrea to emcee the meeting. He has contacted Matt
Cartter, Pam Sloditsky from American Lung, and will also contact CADH re having
a local health director take part. Debbye Rosen has agreed to provide updated
information from DPH perspective re last year’s flu season, as well as any
current information re the upcoming year. Tentative format is a panel discussion
followed by breakout sessions. Beth suggested preparing some questions in
advance to generate discussion. Debbie will contact Heather Henning re her
participation on the panel to represent the issues confronting PHN’s during
planning and implementation of flu clinics.
Lyn provided an update re planning for the
annual meeting in May. A flyer should be ready by mid March and will be emailed
to membership and posted on the website. A tentative title for the conference is
“Natural Disasters: Are Nurses Ready”. If we can provide a screen, computer
and projector, we can have Chuck Motes slides from Louisiana running during the
meeting. Lynn will be getting bio statements from the speakers for the flyer.
Membership forms to go out with the flyer
for the annual meeting in May. There will be an early bird discount, with
membership renewal of $30. Otherwise, membership will be $35 per year.
Phil will prepare an ad for the May
meeting to run in the upcoming edition of the CT Nursing News. Deadline is 2/10,
and the cost is approximately $300 for a 3x3½ ad. It was agreed that this is a
way to reach out to additional health professionals who might wish to attend the
meeting, and demonstrate our efforts to appeal to a broader spectrum of
potential CAPHN members. This would be helpful as we continue to explore 501c3
status.
Debbie reported no members contacted her
regarding serving on the nominating committee or to express interest in serving
on the board. Phil stated that he had spoken with Lynn Abrahamson, who has
agreed to run for President, and Debbie Horvath, who has said that she will run
for Secretary. Additional nominations will be solicited from the floor during
the annual meeting, and elections will be held then. All at large positions are
open at present.
New Business
Margaret noted that there will be a meeting of CT
Coordinators of Parish Nursing on April 25 in Cromwell. She offered to set up a
table and provide membership information, and flyers for the Annual meeting.
Next board meeting will immediately follow
the Flu Conference on 3/10/06 at the Pitkin Center.
Respectfully Submitted,
Debbie Horvath, APRN
Secretary, CAPHN
