Committee Report

Education – The next meeting will be the quarterly networking meeting. It has been scheduled for October 5 at the Meriden Public Library. There will be a brief executive board meeting at 4:30 PM at the library. The general meeting will begin at 5:30 PM and continue to 7PM. Pizza and salad will be provided, members will be asked to bring their own beverage. It was decided to fund the pizza from the treasury for this meeting, so no fee will be charged. The tentative agenda will include an update from the CAPHN board and a roundtable discussion on programs, activities, etc in their work area. Members will also be asked to bring copies of any specific nursing protocols, practice materials or guidelines currently being used to share with the group.  Debbie will send out a “save the date” email to membership.

It was suggested to schedule a presentation of the revised Scope and Standards of Public Health Nursing Practice at the January quarterly meeting.

Annual Meeting – Lynn asked for suggestions and guidance re planning for the annual meeting held in May. Some topics suggested after the last annual meeting were “forensic nursing and public health” and “environmental health issues and P.H. nursing”. Barb Quigley offered to discuss the planning process for the meeting with Lynn. It was mentioned that there had been some issues re members not being permitted to attend the meeting as it took place during work hours. It was thought that there might have been a question pertaining to preferred meeting time on the program evaluation.  It was suggested that we review the evaluations for further information. The meeting will be scheduled for the first or second week in May, depending on availability of a suitable facility and speaker/presenter.

Phil noted that topics in environmental Health seem to be of interest at present. Eileen Boulay and Barbara Dinfelder will attend a meeting sponsored by the Mass Dept of Health that will address the role of the PHN in environmental health. The EPA also has some initiatives addressing environmental health and the elderly, including asthma and COPD, pesticide use, landfill issues re use of adult diapers, etc.

New Business:

There was general discussion regarding sponsorship of an ad in the CPHA program book. Motion was made by Eileen Boulay, seconded by Beth Strimpel to place a ¼ page ad in the book, using CAPHN’s new logo, at a cost of $100. Motion passed unanimously.

Unfinished Business

Samples of the new logo were reviewed for comment. Phil will revise the logo and email to the board for final approval.
